Hello Fabulous Fifth Grade Families,
Thank you to everyone who has sent in extra snacks and small candy treats! Special shout out to Jayson’s family for the lamp! I would love a few more lamps to create a more brain based classroom using more natural lighting. EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2018 (DISMISS 2 hours earlier) Please continue to send in Performing Arts permission forms and money. Fifth grade gets to go see the ASO (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra) as one of the Performing Arts field trips. I must have your child performing arts permission slip for him or her to attend. A set of graded and completion papers went home yesterday. Included in this set should have been week 1-3 of 5-A-Day Math & Language, 2 reading logs, week 1 spelling & vocabulary test. If your child did not have these items, they were either not turned in or they were lost. We are working on being responsible for our items. They have a work in progress folder and other means where these items should be kept. More graded papers will come soon! Please remind your child to write down homework, important dates and other information in their agenda daily. We take time at the end of every day to review their agenda items. We are also working of being time efficient. For example, when they arrive at school there is always a morning message with procedures and tasks to that need to be completed even before they begin their morning work. This is to make ensure they are prepared for their day. Kindly remind your child to remember to read the morning message and use his or her time wisely. Some days there are students who forget to bring in a snack and I try to provide one for them, so they aren’t hungry before lunchtime. We have already had a few families donate snacks to our class (thank you!), as the year goes continues, if you are ever able to send in some extra snacks (for the day someone forgets), our students would greatly appreciate it!
· STEM Cobb Fall Camps Attached is the flyer that I am asking that you print out and give to interested 2nd-8th graders. Many of you work in STEM labs or with students who might be interested in attending. We are including a field trip to iFly and X-drenaline as part of the camp this Fall so it sure to be a GREAT TIME! Thank you so much for helping us to reach as many students as possible and ignite that “STEAM” spark within them. · KSE is officially enrolled in the 2018-2019 National Spelling Bee. This year they took words from popular books. Attached you will find the list of books for each grade (the Bee is only 3-5 grade). They are encouraging students to read the books as an introduction to the words. The actual word lists, dates of Bee, and other directions are yet to come.

The date this year is August 25, 2018 from 9am-1:00pm. Whitefield and KSE partnered last year and will work together again this year. The plans for this year are below. I am the onsite coordinator. Feel free to come out and pinch in!!! Projects for 1041 Reed Rd. 2nd-5th grade campus We would love to have eight volunteers. Four volunteers are needed for cleaning out planters and planting new flowers (ages 10-100). Also, four additional volunteers are needed for cleaning a path near the blacktop area where students play, placing old logs in a designated area for removal, and creating two benches between existing wooden columns ( Ages 15-100). All of the necessary materials will be provided. Rainy Day Plan If it rains, the volunteers would report to the cafeteria at Kings Springs (1041 Reed Rd). The volunteers would create inspirational posters/signs and place them around the school. We would provide the supplies. Mr. Brian (the head custodian) is working with a CCSD to get the measurements for the benches and a precise list of needed materials. I will have all of the materials on site and ready to be used 8/23/18. I will also have snacks and bottles of water for the volunteers. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks!

We are off to a wonderful start! I am enjoying getting to know each and every one of your amazing children. They are all so unique and special in their own ways! Email updates are how I like to keep everyone in the know throughout the year. We will also be utilizing the Classdojo app this year. If you have any questions or concerns, email is the best way to reach me. Please return all forms from Cobb County. I sent home extra forms today for students who have not returned all of the forms. Students receive a small sweet treat and dojo points when they return all their forms. Please help them J In addition, PLEASE join classdojo if you haven’t already. I believe I have sent home a couple of invitations and sent a direct text to everyone. If you have not received an invitation or a text please write me a note in your child’s agenda or respond to this email so I can invite you! Please also send in the additional supplies. We are always in need of healthy snacks and small sweet treats (peanut free). We will have a snack every day. I have had an overwhelming amount of volunteers for making copies for my classroom, thank you! However, today we received an email from PTA asking about our room parents, and I realized that I need to find someone. Would anyone be interested in being our room parent this year (one or two people)? You would be the link between PTA, myself, and our class. This includes duties of helping with holiday parties and Red Ribbon Week poster and other big events that happen this year. Thank you for your time and support! Mrs. B |
